The most significant event I've ever been witness to was Roy Halladay's 2nd career Major League start, where he no-hit the Tigers through 9 2/3 innings in Toronto on fan appreciation day.

Doc went on to become one of the legendary figures in team and league history, with a legacy that will stand with the greats of all time. He was a workhorse who did his job, and like all professional athletes, he was and will always be held to an impossible standard of perfection and expectation.

The example he showed and the impression that left on me was indelible, and surely the same can be said for millions of people grown and growing up in the past 20 years since his debut.

I've been struck by so much emotion on so many days because of Roy Halladay.

Today is a day to celebrate.

Proceeds from this recording will go to the Isaac Foundation in honour of Roy Halladay www.theisaacfoundation.com/tag/roy-halladay.

lyrics

Down in the Rockies, out in Denver, by Colorado State
My team and my family, we learned from one last great teammate

We used to back the sinners, but now we only like the Saints
The season's still alive until suddenly it ain't
He's still a champion if he ain't got the ring

Today's the day we put Doc Halladay's bust away for the way he played the game

I was only thirteen on that cold, sunny September day
No one knew what was coming when Bobby stepped up to the plate

He reached that perfection when we traded him away
The best game he ever had was the only one that meant a thing
I cried in the streets when we lost him both days
